The group was originally formed on Twitter under the hashtag #newcastlemorningphoto in August 2010 by ABC1233 Newcastle radio's afternoon presenter Carol Duncan who encouraged listeners and Twitter followers to take a quick photo of their morning, no matter where in the Newcastle and Hunter Valley region, and share them with others via Twitter. A newcastlemorningphoto Flickr group was set up a short time later on by The Novocastrian Files editor Siobhan Curran as a way of permanently capturing many of the photos that were streaming through.

Stage 1: Create a Yahoo! ID
You need to have a Yahoo! ID to join. If you already have a Yahoo! ID (i.e. if you have a Yahoo! email address) you can skip to Stage 2.
1. Go to www.flickr.com
2. Click ‘Create Your Account’ button on the top right-hand corner of the page.
3. Click ‘Sign Up’ link on the bottom right-hand corner of the page.
4. Enter the required information and click ‘Create My Account’.
Stage 2: Sign up to Your Flickr Account
1. Go to www.flickr.com.
2. Click ‘Create Your Account’ button on the top right-hand corner.
(If you already have a Flickr account, click on ‘Sign In’, if you are not already automatically signed in).
3. Enter your Yahoo! ID and password.
4. Click ‘Sign In’.
Stage 3: Upload Your Photos
1. Click on ‘Upload your first photos’ link
2. Select your photo file from your computer and click ‘Upload Photos and Videos’.
3. Wait a few moments while the photo uploads. Click ‘add a description’.
3. You can add ‘tags’ which are words that represent your photo, such as ‘newcastlemorningphoto’, ‘Hamilton’ or ‘beach’, which will help you identify them later. You can also add a title and description if you wish.
Stage 4: Join the newcastlemorningphoto Group
1. Click on the blue ‘Groups’ from the menu along the top of the page.
2. In the ‘Find a group’ search box type ‘newcastlemorningphoto'.
3. Click on the name ‘newcastlemorningphoto’. You’ll see all the photos that have already been added to the group (unless you are the first!).
4. Click on the blue ‘Join This Group’ link under the name of the group.
Stage 5: Add your photos to the newcastlemorningphoto Group
1. Next to the pink ‘Group Pool’ title, click on the blue ‘Add Photos’
2. Click on the thumbnails of the photos you’d like to add to the group. You can add up to six photos at a time. Click ‘Add To Group’.
